CORN MOUNTAIN/PINE MOUNTAIN

We make the earth by walking upon it.
Hon yam awidlin tsitda andephena' shi'i
lo'okk'yana:we.
(We name the earth by talking.)
We celebrate the earth by dancing.
We honor the earth by singing.

Native American and Appalachian Mountain humor, stories, music, and dance come together on the same stage to speak of a time when everyday life for Zuni and Appalachian Mountain people followed more closely the cycles of nature. Told from two distinct cultural points of view and in two very different languages, Corn Mountain/Pine Mountain asks us, with humor and warmth, to imagine how we might incorporate the values that sustained us in the past into the solutions we seek to the problems that face us today.

"I wanted to let you know how enjoyable and important your recently sponsored public performance was for all involved . . . the message of preservation and sustaining the Zuni language as well as the cultural traditions which have sustained our people throughout the centuries was very important."
