Public
School Residencies
Roadside
Theater conducts public school theater residencies that help students
to discover, celebrate, and perpetuate their history and culture,
and to use this cultural foundation as a means to learn to think,
speak, and write clearly.
The
residency process assumes a direct connection of classroom work
to the history and culture of the community. Student action rather
than passive receipt of information is encouraged. Roadside and
the classroom teacher act as guides, with students taking an equal
measure of responsibility for the work. The involvement of community
members in the classroom as teachers, audience, and resource is
important.
